Day 4　Japanese School & Moiwa

Today, in the morning we had Japanese lessons. The “smoothly” group went to a Japanese dollar store and found various items. After that, we went to the college cafeteria and ate a meal. Erica got attacked by a bird and got her bread stolen by this bird. Then, we went on a short hike on Mount Moiwa. It was very beautiful. After that, we went to a very nice restaurant to eat famous soup curry. Lastly, we went shopping in a daiso.

Day 8 Hot Spring and Ainu Culture Center

June 14 Blog: Today, we had breakfast at the ryokan and attended our final Japanese classes from 9-11:30. We present haikus that we wrote in Japanese recalling our experiences in Sapporo and received certificates for finishing the course. From there, we took a bus to Koganeyu hot spring. We enjoyed foods such as cold soba and katsu-don (pork cutlet and egg over rice) before going to the onsen. For many of us, it was our first Japanese hot spring experience and it was very relaxing. After the bath, we went to the Ainu cultural center and learned about the lives of the indigenous Ainu people native to Hokkaido. We received a tour of traditional Ainu housing and explored their clothing, tools, instruments, and games in the museum. The Ainu clothing was woven with specific patterns that had spiritual meanings related to the gods they worship, and we were especially impressed with their salmon skin shoes. Day 2 Today, we ate breakfast at the hotel. We ate salmon, miso soup, natto, and a variety of small Japanese dishes such as tamagoyaki and umeboshi. After that, we did a guided tour of the Sensouji temple and Asakusa area. After eating lunch at a restaurant, we did a scavenger hunt and we visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Takeshita street, and Ueno Daibutsu. Day 3

At the start of the day, we ate breakfast at the hotel. It consisted of white rice, mackerel, Japanese egg omelet, miso soup, sour plum, meat balls, and konjac (a japanese root vegetable). After breakfast, we flew from Tokyo to Hokkaido. We ate lunch at a food court in Sapporo airport. After checking into the ryokan (Japanese traditional inn), we met Japanese college students, split up into small groups, and had free time with them. With my group, we went to yosakoi (a japanese dance festival in Sapporo). Many groups from different countries competed in this dance competition. Lastly, we ate dinner and sang fun songs at the karaoke center.
